Son muy utilizados en vchiculos acrcos у maritimos. Permiten medir una velocidad absoluta con respccto a la ticrra. Se basan en el principio de Doppler por el cual se sabe que cuando una onda se refleja en una superficie que se estd moviendo con respecto al emisor, se produce un desplazamiento en frecuencia que puede medirse para suministrar una medida de la velocidad del movimiento.
